Olive Middle School

Olive Middle School is a diverse school with students and staff coming from various
backgrounds who come to collaborate and break racial barriers in order to provide a
learning experience that is meaningful in its caliber of quality education, particularly
in the English Language Development and Dual Language programs. The school
recognize the importance of having a culture rich environment and appreciates the
importance of building on its students’ heritage and background. The school’s mission statement is “ A community
working together to achieve success.” Teachers are committed to helping students in developing their English skillls
while also encouraging students to develop a better understanding and appreciation for different cultures through the
Dual Language program.

Camino Nuevo Charter Academy - Burlington Site
Los Angeles Unified School District
Camino Nuevo is dedicated to cultivating scholars who are
bilingual, biliterate, and who are prepared to be agents of social change in their communities and the world. The
school is located in the Pico-Union/MacArthur Park neighborhood just west of downtown Los Angeles and serves 530
students in grade K-8 with 99.9% of the students receiving free/reduced lunch and 98% coming from homes where
Spanish is the primary language, and 62% of them English Learners. There is a developmental bilingual program at the
school and everyone values the language students bring and the language they work to learn. There is a strong belief
that language is a part of who we are and is inextricable from our cultures, our families and our lives.

Gardner Academy
San Jose Unified School District
Gardner Academy embraces the cultural and linguistic diversity of its community. The school is located in the
downtown San Jose, California area in one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods. Of the 500 K-5 students, 88%
are Latino, 5% White and the remaining 7% are Asian, Filipino and American Indian. English Learners comprise 75% of
the student population and 87% are low SES. In 2005-2006 the school was redesigned as a Professional Development
School and the school community renewed their commitment to student achievement to ensure more equitable
outcomes for the student population, The administrators, teachers and parents work collectively to provide students
with multiple opportunities to achieve continuous academic and social success as students are prepared to become
lifelong learners.
